In 2002 and 2003, engine capacity increased to 954 cc (58.2 cu in) which resulted in the CBR954 name. Larger injectors and radiator, re-mapped electronic fuel injection, and a more powerful computer were also added. The bodywork and fairings were reworked for a sleeker, more aerodynamic feel. The frame was strengthened and a more rigid swingarm added and the riding position/pegs were raised to allow for greater lean angles. Dry weight reduced to 168 kg (370 lb).

The CBR954RR would be replaced by an all new CBR1000RR in 2004.

2003 Honda CBR954RR

The original Honda CBR600F concept, known as the Honda Hurricane through 1987 and 1988, was the platform of today's entire Honda CBR line. The CBR900RR was on the market from 1992 through 1999, it was replaced by the 929RR for 2000 and 2001 and finally the 954RR in 2002 and 2003. The 900RR series was replaced by the all new 1000RR in 2004. The line has certainly improved over the years but one thing remains the same - Honda has consistently produced high performance, well-bred and affordable sportbikes.
